Alerts for Citations and Research

How to get email alerts (current awareness) for new articles from journals, subject searches, & citation matches

Table of Contents Alerts

You can receive the table of contents (TOC) from newly published issues of journals that you have selected. Choose your favorite journals and keep current with the articles being published within them.

More detailed directions for ScienceDirectProject Muse, and JSTOR journals can be found below.

ScienceDirect (Elsevier) TOC Alerts

ScienceDirect is the platform for thousands of journals from Elsevier and related publishers. On any journal's home page, just click the "Alert me about new articles" link. ScienceDirect will prompt you to create a free account which you can then use to manage any alerts you establish.

ScienceDirect also supports subject (keyword) alerts. After searching ScienceDirect, look for the "Save as search alert" link at the top of the results. Again, a free account is required to save the alert.

Project Muse TOC Alerts

Project MUSE is a collection of online journals primarily in the humanities and social sciences. You can set up contents alerts for the journals.

The Project MUSE Journal Alerts Start Page takes a different approach than other systems. Instead of an alert link on the page for each journal, searchers should go to the Project MUSE Journal Alerts Start Page and follow these steps:

  1. Click on Menu

  2. Pick My MUSE Alerts

  3. Either login to your account or create an account.

  4. Add Journals for which you want notifications
