Mentoring: Mentoring Culture

Mentoring?

As part of the ALA Code of Ethics, "We strive for excellence in the profession by maintaining and enhancing our own knowledge and skills, by encouraging the professional development of co-workers, and by fostering the aspirations of potential members of the profession."  Mentoring is an integral part of professional development and should be encouraged by all members of the profession.

MSU Libraries seeks the following goals by fostering a mentoring culture amongst its employees.

  • To support the advancement of professional and paraprofessional librarians
  • To promote professional and personal growth
  • To model, support, and encourage best practices in a collegial atmosphere
  • To expand library workers’ knowledge and skills
