EndNote X5 Desktop Help

The latest desktop version of EndNote is version X5. It is available for Mac or Windows. Price varies, but as of Sept. 2011: $232 (via the ITC store) or $116 for students.

Adding Links to Full Text (OpenURL)

(Like Check MSU Availability links within our databases)

  1. Go to Edit/Preferences
  2. Go to OpenURL or Find Full Text
  3. Check the Enable OpenURL box
  4. Enter the following in the OpenURL Path: http://qs7th3bl8m.search.serialssolutions.com/
  5. In the arguments box, leave the default.
  6. To view, go to a full record display and then under the Reference menu, select the OpenURL link.

Adding Connection file for MSU Library Catalog

  1. Download the file
  2. Place the file in your EndNote connections directory [Usually C:\Program Files\EndNote\Connections (Windows) or Harddrive: Applications: EndNote: Connections (Mac OS X)]
  3. To search with it, look for the connection file named Montana State Univ. Note that while it only searches our catalog, it may also retrieve call numbers from other libraries. Just look in the call number field for call numbers with the prefix of BOZEMAN for our call numbers. Others can be deleted.

Off Campus Access

  1. Although we have a proxy server, it does not work well with EndNote.
  2. Instead use the VPN to connect from off campus.
  3. Leave the proxy field blank in the EndNote settings

Author Issues:

For corporate authors (company names and governmental departments), enter the name followed by a trailing comma to avoid it being interpreted as a personal name and displaying like "Prevention, U. S. D. o. H. a. H. S. C. f. D. C. a."

trailing comma

If the corporate author name has a comma within the name, use two commas instead.
