U.S. Statistical Agencies

The U.S. government has several agencies dedicated exclusively to compiling statistics.

Additional Sources for Government Statistics

The sole purpose of the agencies above is to collect data and statistics related to their mission.  However, many government agencies collect statistics at some level. You can either go directly to the agency's website or use one of the sources listed below.

Evaluating Statistical Information

Not all statistics are created equal.  When looking at statistics, keep these criteria in mind.

Who collected the data?
Is the coverage complete?
Do the statistics show a bias?
Are the statistics timely?
Has the data been repackaged?
Is the data from a primary source?
