Subject Terms

To maximize your searching, conduct a subject search in the Library Catalog.  It will retrieve fewer results than a keyword search but the results will be more precise and relevant.  There are many subject terms related to your assignment.  Below are a few suggestions.  Use them independently or in conjunction with one another.  Please note, this is not a comprehensive list.  One suggestion is to locate a book on your topic and look at the subject headings.  It can refer you to additional subject terms.

Economic Subject headings

International Economic Relations

International Business Enterprise

International Trade

Free Trade

Trade Blocs

Economic Geography

Economic Development

Economic Policy

Economic Conditions

Library Books

The Library has over 750,000 books in its collection. There are many titles related to international relations. Below are a selected list of books available in the Library.

Some tips about books.

  • When conducting a search, use the $ as a root expander.  It will bring back all variations of a word.  Example: econom$  will bring back search results with the words Economy, Economic, Economical, Economist, etc.
  • You don't have to read the whole book.  Read through the table of contents to find a chapter or two on your topic.  Many of our catalog records have table of contents.  Click on  "A look Inside" or "Catalog Record" to view the table of contents.
  • Browsing: If you find a book on topic, locate it on the shelf.  You will find other books on the same topic.  This is the principle of co-location.  Many times you might find an even better book than the one you originally went to find.  Serendipity is a beautiful thing. Embrace it.
